On the east side of main street in downtown Winter Park, behind the
many condos that are there now, is a native wetlands area (see wetlands photo). This an untouched part of the
wilderness. In fact, this is where we spotted a moose (see moose photo).
Early one morning I ventured into the wetlands - but not very far because it is just that --- wet! I stood right in front of this
pussy willow that seemed to be glowing from the morning sun. This part of the willow is called the catkin and appears long
before the leaves and are one of the earliest signs of spring.
