      step house ladder
Mesa Verde, Spanish for ‘Green Table’, was a flourishing community from AD 600 through AD 1300. These cliff dwellings actually represent the last 75 to 100 years of occupation.

This ladder is representative of how you get up into most cliff dwellings and in particular, the Step House. It is located on the Wetherill Mesa. The interesting fact about this cliff dwelling is there is evidence of two separate occupations here. A modified basketmaker site dating around AD 600 is located to the left of the ladder (you see evidence of it in the last picture) and the rest of the pueblo dating about 1200.
