Mesa Verde, Spanish for ‘Green Table’, was a flourishing community from AD 600 through AD 1300.
These cliff dwellings actually represent the last 75 to 100 years of occupation.
This is another view of Spruce Tree House which contained 130 rooms and 8 kivas. In an earlier time there was a large Spruce Tree growing from the front of this dwelling to the mesa top. It is said that one of the entries to the
dwelling was climbing down this tree, which was later cut down by an early explorer.
