      spruce tree house
Mesa Verde, Spanish for ‘Green Table’, was a flourishing community from AD 600 through AD 1300. These cliff dwellings actually represent the last 75 to 100 years of occupation.

Spruce Tree House is the third largest cliff dwelling in Mesa Verde, containing about 130 rooms and 8 kivas. It is located just at the edge of Chapin Mesa – where the trailhead toward the petroglyph, the previous photo was located. It is believed to have been home to close to 80 people. The wooden posts are actually ladders to a lower level.
