Shavano First Look Back

      shavano first look back
Climbing Mt Shavano, if started early enough, will give you the chance to get to the summit of 2 14ers, the other being Tabeguache Peak. Shavano is 14,229 ft making it the 17th highest peak in Colorado. It is famous for the Angel of Shavano, a snow formation in the image of an angel that emerges on the east face of the mountain durng the snow melt in spring.

The early part of the hike is through rather dense forest. I put my head down and just kept following the very good trail until I finally decided to take a break and look back - that is the picture above. The brightly lit valley floor in stark contrast to the heavily shadowed trail struck me as a great shot. The rest of the hike was well marked and very little scrambling. It was an enjoyable day.
