      pikes peak view
Whether you hike it, drive it or cog it, the view from the top of Pikes Peak is astounding. Over a half million people reach the 14,110 ft summit house every year. Did you know this is where Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write 'America the Beautiful'?

I had hiked to the summit, starting at Devil's Playground - which is at 12,950 ft. This was a test for me becasue it was the first 14er I hiked after returning to Colorado following a year in Arizona but more importantly, it was the first 14er since having a silent heart attack several years prior - also climbing a 14er. What a wonderful feeling to conquer this mountain and truly enjoy the views from the summit like I had never done before.
