At the base of Winter Park Ski Resort, right at the place the Ski Train would drop off
all its excited passengers for a day of skiing and boarding, there is this view of the old ski jumping hill. Built in 1937 by the United States Forest Service (USFS), the
Ski Jump was in existence a year before ski trains starting bringing skiers to Winter Park. At that time, lift tickers were $1.
In 1958, the Winter Park Ski Jump School began teaching students how to jump under the direction of Harold 'Pop' Sorenson. If you look in the upper left
corner of the photography, you can see the remains of the wooden ski jump ramp. The boxes in the lower right were where the judges for the ski jumping were
located.
