      not your average rabbit hole
We were on our way down from the Mt Evans summit when our peripheral vision caught something pop up in the middle of the road. No one was behind us, so I stopped the jeep. Sure enough, up through what looked like a pothole in the road was a marmot! As traffic came up the road, down he would go - and pop up once the traffic was gone. Now this is survival!

Marmots, mountain mice, love the early morning sun and can be found all throughout the high rockies. They make a whistle noise and chucking sounds when a predator is in the area. I have heard them many times on my hikes of 14ers.
