On a two day, 854 mile road trip over the Memorial Day weekend in 2010, I traveled from Denver to the
western slopes of the Rockies, visited Telluride before settling into Cortez for the night. The Mesa Verde National Park and the world famouns cliff dwellings
awaited me the next morning. However, the trip to Cortez was such a beautiful, scenic drive.
After crossing the Continental Divide and reaching Montrose, I headed south along Hwy 550. Before reaching Ridgway, CO I had to stop and get a picture of the
San Juan mountains that were my traveling partners out my driver's side window. Up to this point in the trip, I had been marveling at the various shades of
green in the trees. The deep, dark green of the evergreens contrasted markedly from the fluorescent lime green of the blooming Aspens. They are not as sharp
here but the mountain backdrop was too hard to resist.
