On a two day, 854 mile road trip over the Memorial Day weekend in 2010, I traveled from Denver to the
western slopes of the Rockies, visited Telluride before settling into Cortez for the night. The Mesa Verde National Park and the world famouns cliff dwellings
awaited me the next morning. However, the trip to Cortez was such a beautiful, scenic drive.
About halfway to Cortez, I had to go over Lizard Head Pass at about 10,000 ft in elevation. The mountains here are 13ers (13,000 ft high) but I thought the view
here interesting. There were plenty of trails around here and the corral in the foreground suggests horseback trails. As I got out to take this picture, much to
my surprise was a biker heading toward me – he had come up this highway to the pass. Oh the ride he had ahead of him and my goodness, the shape he must be in!
