On a two day, 854 mile road trip over the Memorial Day weekend in 2010, I traveled from Denver to the
western slopes of the Rockies, visited Telluride before settling into Cortez for the night. The Mesa Verde National Park and the world famouns cliff dwellings
awaited me the next morning. However, the trip to Cortez was such a beautiful, scenic drive.
The drive out of Telluride toward Cortez was just a 2-lane road but absolutely beautiful. It was late afternoon and the sun was at a great angle, causing the
trees to truly glow. I drove by a sign indicating a dirt road named Last Dollar Road. I turned around and had to explore. A road with that kind of name must
be interesting. Oh, was it ever! This image is taken just after turning onto the dirt road. I couldn’t pass up the interlocking log fence, the blooming
Aspens or the mountains in the background.
