Every hiking season, I climb a previously scaled 14er to check the condition of my
legs and lungs. This year, I intended to do Mt. Bierstadt again but part way up the road to Guanella Pass I discovered construction had closed
the road. I back tracked and headed up I-70 to the trailhead for Grays and Torreys Peaks. I had hiked Grays twice before - once continuing over
to Torreys Peak.
About a mile and a half up the valley from the trailhead, the sun was hitting both peaks while the trail up
the valley was still cool and in the mountain shade. Many hikers went by me as I stopped to get the image. That is the one
big problem with this hike - too many people.
