      fire temple house
Mesa Verde, Spanish for ‘Green Table’, was a flourishing community from AD 600 through AD 1300. These cliff dwellings actually represent the last 75 to 100 years of occupation.

Fire Temple Houses were not used for habitation as much as they were for community-wide ceremonial gatherings. Note the hand and toe-hold trails leading from one level to another – there must have also been a ladder at one time.
