Late May at St. Mary's Glacier found the lake still frozen, people climbing the glacier for
spring skiing and boarding, hikers aplenty and some stark images. Trees, twisted from the winds, some stripped of bark others standing alone gave the
area a most unique feel. Looking out over the frozen lake, there lay one of their fallen comrades on top of the ice, the glacier
in the background.
St. Mary's Glacier is a perennial snowfield located at 11,000 ft just a few miles off I-70 west of Denver. Although not technically a glacier because it
does not flow. Currently, the snow field has not receded in the past years due to northern exposure and recent high snowfall.
