Most of us realize that the best way to get traffic while waiting to be listed by search engines is
through being linked to by other quality sites. This also assists with increasing search engine rankings when
search engine spiders do pay a visit. Depending on the search engine, the *only*
way to have a chance at a decent ranking is to have other sites linking to yours. NOTE: RECIPROCAL LINKING NOT ONE WAY!
What many new web masters don't realize is that a request for a link exchange will probably meet with a negative or
no response. The reason why is simple - it's back to the WIIFM principle - What's In It For Me - the
most basic of motivators in the human psyche. Very few web masters will give you a link if they receive nothing in
return, especially if they are earning money or gaining traffic from the links they already have in place. Even
just making an offer of extra services, no matter how small, will motivate the web master to at least consider a
link exchange - they may not even take you up on the offer.
The biggest issue with link marketing is just doing the leg work to sort out what is and isn't worth doing. It can be
very time consuming and very tedious and the results cannot be guaranteed. You can easily sink a ton of time and
effort into just researching sites to exchange links with before you get anywhere with them. But in the long run,
these efforts MAY pay off if you scour the net and find the right sites and deals. If you want to turn ABMALL
loose on this, we can do it at our normal hourly rate, but truth be told, unless money isn't a big issue, you'd be
better off hiring an assistant or even an intern to do this kind of work. Otherwise, for the amount of money you're
going to spend on ABMALL would be put to better use simply buying more traffic via Pay Per Click or other types of
marketing campaigns. But ultimately, if search engine traffic is important to you, then yes, you need to get other
sites to link to you one way or another!
